Prostate Cancer Awareness Month: What You Need To Know
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month.
Did you know that Prostate Cancer affects more than 3 million men every year, worldwide?
Since the risk of prostate cancer increases with age, we recommend prostate cancer screenings for men over the age of 50 years old. For men that are under the age of 50, we recommend our Annual Urological Wellness Exam.
I’m over the age of 50, and need to get my prostate checked. What should I expect during my screening?
During the screening, our providers will ask for a complete medical history, and will perform a comprehensive medical prostate exam. Diagnostic testing through a simple blood test, called the Prostate-Specific Antigen test (PSA), identifies patients that are at risk for prostate cancer. If needed, our providers will perform a prostate biopsy.
The Urologists at The Y Factor will recommend the appropriate treatment plan for all patients that have positive biopsies. Patients with no cancer detected are closely monitored using a variety of supplemental specialized diagnostic laboratory testing and a schedule of follow-up care.
I’m under the age of 50. What preventative measures can I take against Prostate Cancer and other male-related conditions?
We recommend our Annual Urological Wellness exam. The Y Factor specializes in male-specific health needs. These needs change as patients mature, meaning annual appointments are beneficial for continued optimal health.
