Urological Wellness and COVID-19: What You Should Know
As the world grapples with the spread of COVID-19, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) are closely monitoring the diagnosis and treatment available to patients who display symptoms. The pandemic has an impact on all medical providers, including The Y-Factor: Men’s Urological Wellness, and the work we do for our patients. We want you to be informed about what this means for you.
What is COVID-19?
The definition of COVID-19 continues to change as we learn more about the virus. COVID-19 is a mild-to-severe respiratory illness caused by a novel coronavirus. Other coronaviruses have spread in the past, causing common cold and flu-like symptoms.
If left untreated, mild flu-like symptoms can lead to a severe fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle pain, headache, loss of taste and smell. This can progress to pneumonia and respiratory failure.
Avoiding the spread
The virus is known to spread from person to person through respiratory fluids, and by contact with infected surfaces. In order to contain the spread, you should follow these simple recommendations.
Wash your hands
Wash them frequently and thoroughly with an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. This is effective in killing viruses that may be on your hands.
Follow social distancing guidelines
Maintain at least a distance of six feet between you and anyone coughing or sneezing. Since not everyone infected with COVID-19 shows symptoms, it’s best to maintain social distance from others as much as you can when you’re in a public space.
Avoid touching your face
Your hands are in contact with many surfaces and carry viruses. If contaminated, your hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose, or mouth and enter your body.
Practice respiratory hygiene
Make sure you and people around you cover their mouth and nose with their bent elbow or tissue when they sneeze or cough. Dispose of the used tissue immediately.
Seeking treatment
If you experience symptoms for what could be COVID-19 you should seek medical attention, but call in advance. Your local health authority can provide the most up-to-date information of cases in your area, and can direct you to the correct health facility.
Urological wellness amid COVID-19
The Y-Factor is still available to examine all cases related to urological wellness as usual.
