MANday: Are your erections curving? We can help!

Congratulations to our Houston Astros for winning the world series championship! There were many home runs and many strike outs. There was plenty of great pitching that we saw from our home team. Curve balls are great when it comes to baseball, but what happens if your erections are curving? This is an elephant in the room for a lot of men. Curvature of your erections is called Peyronie’s disease, named after the French doctor who noticed the condition in men way back in 1743. Believe it or not Peyronie’s disease is very common in the United States.  Approximately 1 in 100 men in the United States over the age of 18 have been diagnosed with Peyronie’s disease. However, based on studies of men who reported having symptoms of Peyronie’s disease, researchers estimate that the actual number of men who have Peyronie’s disease is more than 1 in 10.

Peyronie’s disease is caused by repeated penile injury, typically during sex or physical activity. In Peyronie’s disease, the bend is significant, and may occur along with pain or interfere with sexual function. The plaque builds up inside the penis, in the thick elastic membrane called the tunica albuginea. The tunica albuginea helps keep the penis stiff during an erection. The plaque can develop anywhere along the penis. Medications or surgery may be recommended if symptoms persist or worsen. Unfortunately, many men are embarrassed to address this condition and will live for years with curvature which interferes with their overall quality of life.

Here at The Y Factor we specialize in treating peyronie’s disease and offer effective non-surgical treatments that are in accordance with the American Urological guidelines. We also offer in house imaging that will confirm the presence of a plaque and the location which will aid in proper treatment of Peyroine’s disease. If you are having curvature with your erections, do not be embarrassed as it is a very common condition. Instead schedule an appointment at The Y Factor today with one of our specialists so we can develop a game plan to treat that curvature!
