Surgical Vs. Non-Surgical Treatment of Phimosis

Phimosis is a medical condition where the foreskin becomes constricted, preventing retraction over the head of the penis. Phimosis can be benign with normal tissue (foreskin) creating a tight ring preventing retraction. Phimosis can be pathological with inflammation, scarring, and diseased foreskin affecting the retraction over the head of the penis.
There are several treatments for phimosis including a new device that patients can purchase and self-administer over a period of 6-to-8 weeks to stretch the foreskin thus allowing retraction of the foreskin over the head of the penis. The manufacturer claims that 90% of men who follow the prescribed Instructions are able to eventually retract the foreskin over the head of the penis. This non-surgical technique is more likely to be successful with individuals with benign phimosis according to the study.
At The Y Factor, we do not recommend stretching of the foreskin in individuals with a pathological diseased foreskin because it would induce further tears, scarring, and promote the risk of infection.
An alternative preferred approach for men with diseased phimosis is a Shang Ring Circumcision which would remove the foreskin with a non-surgical technique that I have administered on hundreds of men in Houston. The in-office circumcision procedure is a preferred option for adult men suffering from phimosis. Our goal at The Y Factor is to always provide reviews of new technology or treatments that affect men’s health.
